PRESS RELEASE
Representative Sabi Kumar Declines to Debate
WHITE HOUSE, TENN. —Tamara Bavendam, MD, MS, Democratic candidate for Tennessee House District 66, today called on incumbent Representative Sabi Kumar, MBBS to reconsider his decision to decline a debate, emphasizing that Robertson County voters deserve a meaningful opportunity to hear directly from the candidates seeking to represent them in the Tennessee State Assembly.
“Robertson County voters deserve more than campaign slogans and carefully prepared statements. They deserve answers,” said Bavendam. “I am ready to stand before the people of this district, discuss the issues that matter to their families, and explain what I would fight for in Nashville. I hope Representative Kumar will reconsider and give voters the opportunity to hear both sides.”
With Election Day approaching, voters deserve to understand where their candidates stand on public education, health care, the cost of living, workers’ rights, economic opportunity, and the future of their communities. A public debate would give residents the opportunity to compare the candidates’ records, priorities, and visions for District 66.
Dr. Bavendam has made engaging directly with the community a central part of her campaign, meeting with residents and listening to their concerns throughout Robertson County. She maintains that elected officials are accountable to people in their district, not to political parties. While a legislator will likely not please everyone, they should be able to stand in front of their voters and explain how they came to their decision.
“Showing up for this community means being willing to answer difficult questions, defend your record, and explain your plans for the future,” Bavendam continued. “I am willing to do that because the people of Robertson County deserve nothing less. I invite Representative Kumar to join me and let the voters decide for themselves.”
Dr. Bavendam remains ready to participate in a fair, publicly accessible debate and encourages community organizations, civic groups, and local media outlets to help make that conversation possible.
Robertson County deserves answers. The voters deserve a debate.
